The Cure and Prevention of Heartburn
There are two main opinions on stopping heartburn. Many people think that heartburn prevention is the answer. The other side just waits until heartburn happens and then looks for a remedy.
If we start with how to stop heartburn before it begins, then go to the more preventative side of medicine, where good habits replace bad and using common sense to avoid overeating.
Prevention is thought to be the most effective remedy for heartburn. Prevention eliminates not only the pain of heartburn, but the danger of other gastric problems that the heartburn may cause.
Don’t stuff yourself at mealtime! Eating too much will equal heartburn every time.
You can also prevent heartburn by eating a banana before meals. This has been reported an an excellent heartburn prevention method.
If, for whatever reason, your prevention methods fail you, you may need to use one of the popular home remedies for heartburn. As for “remedies after the fact”, I know of only two that are both safe and effective.
The first remedy is 1 teaspoon of baking soda stirred into about four ounces of water. Once you drink the water, relief is only a couple of burps away.
Believe it or not, vinegar is another good heartburn remedy. Drinking a shot and following it with a drink of water will immediately neutralize excess acid. If straight vinegar is a bit much for you a 50/50 mix of apple cider and vinegar will work almost as well.
