Create a blog and use it to ping directories. This will get your site added to various high-ranking directories, including Technorati and BlogWise. While most of these directories use “no follow” tags, some of them allow blogs to receive to have direct links from the home page or from various tag pages throughout the site.

Search out all of the blog directories – or find a list by searching on Google – and submit links to your blog. One-way links are the foundation of a powerful search engine optimization campaign. Additionally, it is also possible that you will receive some direct click-thru traffic in the short term, since the directory may put you on a “newest entry” list.

Submit articles to directories to create one-way links to your site. It is important to note that this will only work once. If you submit the same article with the same resource box to 50 different directories, you will only receive credit for a single one-way link – and it will be from whatever website search engines happen to spider first.

When working on a search engine optimization project, consider working out triangular link exchanges. These exchanges will require you to link to one person and then that person to another – who will link to you in turn. In the end, none of you have reciprocal links, but you will all have one-way links, which are given more value by search engine algorithms.

When optimizing your pages for search engines, remember to use your selected keyword inside of the title tags. As always with search engine optimization and special tags – or tags other than body tags – you will want to use as few other keywords as possible. For instance, you will want to replace conjunctions with slashes whenever possible.

Spend the time to analyze your search engine keyphrase competition. If you find that ten sites are constantly outcompeting you, no matter what you do, then figure out what they’re doing and do it better. Are they receiving more one-way incoming links? If so, what can you do to achieve the same results? Are they setting up more reciprocal link exchanges? If so, how can you increase your speed at setting up your own exchanges?

Whenever you create a link to your site, use one of your targeted keywords as the anchor text of your link. This is crucial if you want to gain relevance points from search engine algorithms. Additionally, you will want to vary the keywords you select to increase the number of keywords for which your site is given relevance.

Do not pay for dozens of high PR links in an attempt to increase your search engine ranking positions. This simply will not work. Google now uses an algorithm that looks for “natural linking” patterns, which immediately flags any sites that seem to be getting links too quickly and without any real justification.
